Nexplanon Insertion

Nexplanon Insertion: A Simple In-Office Procedure

The insertion of Nexplanon is a quick and straightforward procedure performed right here at our office at John Labban, M.D., PC. Our experienced healthcare providers are trained to ensure your comfort and minimize any potential discomfort during the process. The entire insertion typically takes only a few minutes.

What to Expect During the Insertion Process

You will be positioned comfortably on an exam table. The insertion site, located on the inner side of your upper arm, will be cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic. The patient will feel a brief pinch. This numbing agent ensures you feel minimal discomfort during the insertion.

Once the area is numb, your provider will use a specialized applicator to insert the Nexplanon implant just beneath the skin's surface. The implant is small and flexible, about the size of a matchstick. The entire insertion process is quick, and most women report feeling a slight pressure.

After the Insertion

Following the insertion, a pressure bandage will be placed over the insertion site. You may experience some mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness in the area for a few days, but this is typically minimal and resolves quickly. We recommend that you keep the bandage and avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 24 hours after the procedure.
