Nexplanon Removal
Nexplanon Removal: A Simple and Safe Procedure
When the time comes to remove your Nexplanon implant, or if you decide to discontinue its use earlier, the removal process at John Labban, M.D., PC is a straightforward and safe procedure performed in our office. Our experienced healthcare provider is skilled in Nexplanon removal, ensuring your comfort and minimizing any potential discomfort.
What to Expect During the Removal Process
You will be positioned comfortably on an exam table, and the removal site, located on the inner side of your upper arm, will be cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic. This numbing agent ensures you feel minimal discomfort during the removal.
Once the area is numb, your provider will gently palpate your arm to locate the Nexplanon implant. A small incision, typically about 2-3 millimeters, will be made at the insertion site. The implant is then gently removed using forceps. The entire removal process is usually quick, often taking only a few minutes.
After the Removal
Following the removal, steri-strips, then, a band-aid will be placed over the incision site. You may experience some mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness in the area for a few days, but this is typically minimal and resolves quickly. We recommend avoiding heavy lifting or strenuous activity for a short period after the procedure. Your provider will give you detailed post-removal instructions and address any further contraceptive needs you may have.
